When the transmission quits, the ride is over. This Complete Heavy-Duty Transmission for the Polaris RZR XP 1000 and XP 4 1000 is built to fix the factory unit's weak points while keeping the familiar chain-reverse layout. The reverse chain is doubled and 2x stronger than stock, the pinion and snorkel gears are 9310 alloy steel and lapped together for a perfect mesh, the front output shaft is 300M, the pinion bearing retainer is heavy duty, and the case has 68% more metal at the snorkel tube and axle outputs. It arrives fully assembled, built to order and tested, with stock gearing, a turf-mode-deleted stock option, or a 12.5%, 25% or 37.5% gear reduction depending on your model.

Upgraded Reverse Chain
The double reverse chain is twice as strong as stock, so you can throw it into reverse whenever you need to. It handles thick mud and steep hills where a stock chain would snap, and it runs quieter than competing upgrades.
Upgraded Pinion and Snorkel Gears
The pinion and snorkel gear set is made from 9310 alloy steel, a gear material also used in aircraft, and the front output shaft is 300M, one of the strongest steel alloys available. The pinion and snorkel gears are lapped, meaning they're mated and broken in together during production. That gives smoother, cooler and stronger operation, and no break-in period: install it and ride.
Heavy-Duty Pinion Bearing Retainer
The stock bearing retainer is one of the biggest OEM weak spots. When it isn't strong enough, the snorkel and pinion gears can pull apart, overheat and fail. The thicker heavy-duty retainer holds the pinion gear in place to prevent that.
A Better Case
Better gears don't help if the case can't hold them. The case is stronger in all the right places but adds only about one pound over stock. The snorkel tube and axle outputs have 68% more metal, plus added support ribs and gussets, and the gussets and fins also help the transmission run cooler. These changes help prevent cracking and keep everything tight under load.
Gear Reduction Options
Depending on your model, choose stock gearing, stock with turf mode deleted, or a 12.5%, 25% or 37.5% reduction. A bigger reduction means more torque for bigger tires and heavier loads, and more pulling power through rough trails and deep mud. Stock gearing suits machines on stock-size tires, while big-tire mud and rock machines benefit most from the deeper reductions.
Heavy-Duty vs. Geared-Reverse Transmission
There are two complete XP 1000 transmissions in this line. This heavy-duty version keeps a reverse chain, doubled and 2x stronger than stock, and covers the widest list of OEM part numbers and models, including international and EU versions, with a turf-mode-delete option. The Geared-Reverse version replaces the chain entirely with a 3x-stronger gear and costs more. If you've snapped reverse chains repeatedly in heavy mud, the geared version is worth a look. For most hard trail riders, this heavy-duty unit fixes the common failure points.
Signs Your Stock Transmission Is on Its Way Out
XP 1000 transmissions usually give some warning before they let go. Watch for a reverse that slips, clunks or won't engage cleanly, new whining or grinding under load, gear oil seeping from around the snorkel tube or axle outputs, and metal on the drain plug magnet at an oil change. A cracked case often shows up first as a slow leak near the outputs. If you're seeing these signs and planning to keep riding hard or move to bigger tires, a complete heavy-duty replacement makes more sense than patching the factory unit with the same factory parts.
Turf Mode Deleted Option
One stock-ratio option comes with turf mode deleted. Turf mode unlocks the rear differential for tighter turns on lawns and hard surfaces. If you never use it, the deleted version is an option. Otherwise choose the regular stock option, and if you aren't sure which your machine needs, contact us before ordering. Note that only the stock-ratio option is offered with turf mode deleted; the reduction options are listed without it.
Built to Order
Each transmission is built to order for the OEM part number and gear reduction you select, then tested before it ships, so double-check both selections before ordering. If you're unsure which gear reduction suits your tire size and riding, contact us and we'll help you choose.
Match Your OEM Part Number
Select the OEM part number from your current transmission so the replacement matches your machine. Eighteen OEM numbers are listed. Refer to your owner's manual for oil requirements.
What's in the Box
- Complete, assembled heavy-duty transmission (gear reduction as selected)
- All necessary seals
- Necessary plugs and shifter shim
Who It's For and What Pairs Well
This is for XP 1000 owners facing a cracked case, a broken reverse chain or a failed pinion, and for builds adding bigger tires that need more torque. Round out the drivetrain with axles from RZR XP 1000 axles and CVs, clutch kits in RZR XP 1000 clutch and transmission (4-seat: RZR XP 4 1000 clutch and transmission), and protect the case with RZR XP 1000 skid plates.
