Installation Notes
Mount the substructure to the frame, hang the carrier arm, then adjust the cam nut at the striker for a tight close. Route camera or plate light wiring through the lower tube. Why outside: on the ADV and ADV 5, the enclosed cargo area is the most protected space on the machine, and a 35" spare can take up most of it. Moving the tire to an exterior carrier frees that room for food, sleeping gear and recovery kits. The adjustable striker is worth setting carefully on the first install: close the carrier, adjust the cam nut until it shuts firmly without slamming, and recheck after the first trip. If you plan to relocate the rear camera, order the relocation kit and extension harness at the same time so the wiring goes in once. Pair with the DRT Exterior Tire Carrier Bumper for a complete rear setup. Before ordering, measure your spare: the overall diameter must be within the carrier's stated capacity, and a mounted spare adds real weight up high, so check strap tension and hardware torque after the first ride and at every service.
