The GDP 6" Portal Gear Lift is the middle size in the lineup and the most versatile choice for a Polaris RZR XP Turbo or XP 4 Turbo. It lifts the machine 6" at the hubs and adds a 30%, 45% or 60% gear reduction, so you can run 34" tires on stock suspension and up to 46" with a 10" lift. Pick single or dual idler gears and billet or cast housings to build the kit around how you ride.
Highlights
- 6" of lift added at the hubs
- 30%, 45% or 60% gear reduction
- Dual idler or single idler gearing
- Billet or cast aluminum housings, among the thickest available
- Cool, quiet, precision-ground gears of 9310 alloy billet steel
- 1.5" diameter 4340 hardened steel drive shaft
- Dual idler adds 1" front and rear offset, 2" of extension in total
- Universal hubs for 4/156, 4/137, 4/115 and 4/110 bolt patterns
- Lighter than the competition; limited lifetime warranty
Why GDP Portals
GDP didn't build the first side-by-side portal kit, but it built the one riders trust. Every piece of these portals has been refined through years of hard testing and real riding. For a Turbo owner who wants more clearance and more torque without going to the extreme 8" size, the 6" kit hits the sweet spot.
How Portals Lift and Gear Down
Each portal box offsets the wheel center 6" below the axle, so the whole machine sits higher without changing your suspension or the angle the axles run at. Inside the box, the gears reduce the wheel speed and multiply torque. That combination means you clear more obstacles and still have the power to spin larger, heavier tires.
Match the Reduction to Your Riding
- 30%: faster rides that still pack plenty of torque, good for dunes and trails.
- 45%: enough extra torque to run bigger tires and take on rougher terrain.
- 60%: the choice for a jaw-dropping, nose-deep mud machine.
For the highest strength level, add dual idlers to any of the three. Whatever the setup, the reduction gives back the torque that big tires take away.
Dual Idler Gears
A dual idler portal uses two idler gears instead of one, so the load is shared and each gear sees less stress. Two idlers only work if they mesh perfectly, which is why they're precision CNC ground from 9310 steel alloy. The dual setup also pushes the wheels out 1" front and rear for a 2" longer footprint, which adds a bit of stability.
Less Strain on Your Drivetrain
With the reduction happening at the hub, the axles, prop shaft, differential and transmission don't have to work extra to keep up with big tires. That means smoother performance and parts that last longer, which matters when the rest of the machine is still stock.
Built With Premium Parts
The cast or billet aluminum housings are some of the thickest you can get, and each one is backed by a 5/16" backing plate made from an advanced alloy steel.
- Reinforced housings for gear retention, optimized for oil flow
- Advanced alloy steel backing plates stronger than chromoly
- Integrated rear hub backing plates, so no failure-prone aluminum hubs
- No vents, which testing showed do more harm than good
- Pairs well with Portal Blood gear oil, made for GDP portals
Seals and Bearings
- Thermo-Tork gaskets and O-rings with excellent oil resistance and slow wear
- Sealed input gear and a double-lipped output seal
- Full sealing coverage, so oil leaks aren't a worry
- Double angular contact output bearings against early wear
- Roller idler and drive bearings for consistent gear mesh
Add a Frame Stiffener
Major lift and monster tires add stress to the RZR's front frame. A frame stiffener reinforces the front end so it won't buckle under extra weight and hard riding. Choose Yes under "Do you need a frame stiffener?" to add one, or No if you already have one installed.
Max Tire Size by Setup
| Max tire size | Required setup |
|---|---|
| Up to 34" | Stock suspension |
| 35"-36" | 1.5" forward front A-arms |
| 35"-36" | 3" lift kit |
| 37"-39" | 1.5" forward front A-arms and 3" lift kit |
| 40"-46" | 10" lift kit |
These are the largest sizes that fit without rubbing, measured at full compression and full turn. Larger tires can work with minor trimming or a little rub.
Wheel Requirements
- 18" or larger wheels required
- 18" wheels: no more than 4-1/2" backspacing
- 20" and larger wheels: no more than 5" backspacing
- Center hole of at least 3.25" (82.55 mm), or 1" wheel spacers are needed
4", 6" or 8": Why 6" Is the Sweet Spot
The 4" kit is the mildest option and keeps the most speed, while the 8" kit is built for 40"-plus mud tires and needs 22" wheels. The 6" kit sits in between. It clears 34" tires with no other changes, accepts 18" wheels, and with the right arms or lift grows all the way to 46" tires. That makes it a smart choice if you want a big improvement now and the option to keep building later without replacing the portals. Most riders who are unsure end up happiest here.
About the Lift Kit Question
The kit asks whether your RZR already has a big lift kit. Answer honestly: machines with a big lift are set up differently, and the answer helps make sure the right parts come in the box. If you plan to add a big lift later, contact us before ordering so we can help you choose the right version.

Fitment
| Year | Make | Model |
|---|---|---|
| 2016-2021 | Polaris | RZR XP Turbo |
| 2016-2021 | Polaris | RZR XP 4 Turbo |
Wheel Requirements
- 18” or larger wheel required
- 18” wheels cannot exceed 4-1/2” backspacing
- 20” and larger wheels cannot exceed 5” backspacing
- Wheels need to have a center hole of at least 3.25" (82.55mm) or require a 1” wheel spacer
Installation Notes
Set aside a full day and a well-equipped shop. Remove the factory hubs and brakes, install the backing plates, portal boxes, steering arms, caliper plates and extended brake lines, then bleed the brakes and fill the portals with gear oil. Fit the frame stiffener if ordered, then align the machine before riding. Contact us if you need help choosing a gear reduction.
