The GDP 4" Portal Gear Lift is the entry point into portals for the Polaris RZR XP Turbo and XP 4 Turbo. It adds 4" of lift at the hubs with a 15% or 30% gear reduction, so you can run 33" tires on stock suspension and still keep a quick, sporty feel. It's also the only size here that works with 14" wheels, including the factory wheels with spacers, which makes it the easiest portal kit to add to a mostly stock machine.
Highlights
- 4" of lift added at the hubs
- 15% or 30% gear reduction
- Dual idler or single idler gearing
- Billet or cast aluminum housing, the thickest and strongest available
- Cool, quiet, precision-ground gears of 9310 alloy billet steel
- 1.5" diameter 4340 hardened steel drive shaft
- Dual idler adds 3/4" front and rear offset, 1.5" of extension in total
- Universal hubs fit 4/156, 4/137, 4/115 and 4/110 bolt patterns
- Lighter than the competition; limited lifetime warranty
Portals Made for Every Kind of Ride
These portals are built for dunes, desert, trails and mud alike. Lift at the hub means more clearance under the whole machine without steeper axle angles, and the gearing in each box restores the torque a larger tire would otherwise rob from the Turbo.
15% or 30%?
- 15%: keeps rides fast while adding enough torque to start getting wild. A good choice if you're moving up a size or two in tires.
- 30%: the geared-down, torqued-up option for the biggest tires this kit can clear.
Either way, you choose the portal you want with the performance you need.
About the Dual Idler
Adding a second idler gear to each portal box spreads the load over twice the surface area, for more reliable torque transfer and the strongest gear set you can buy. The pair is precision CNC ground from 9310 steel alloy so the gears mesh perfectly. If you tend to break parts, the dual idler is the extra strength built for you. It also moves each wheel out 3/4" front and rear.
A Gear Reduction That Protects Your Machine
Since the reduction happens in the hub, the axles, differential, prop shaft and transmission carry much less stress. Knowing those expensive parts are protected lets you ride harder without worry.
Every Part Made Strong
The cast and billet aluminum housings are the thickest and strongest you can get, and each is paired with a 5/16" advanced steel alloy backing plate.
- Housings reinforced for gear retention and optimized for oil flow
- Backing plates stronger than chromoly
- Integrated rear hub backing plates replace failure-prone aluminum hubs
- No vents, because testing showed they do more harm than good
- Pairs with Portal Blood gear oil, formulated for GDP portals
Seals and Bearings That Last
- Advanced gaskets and O-rings that resist oil and wear slowly
- Sealed input gear plus a double-lipped output seal
- 100% sealing coverage to prevent leaks
- Double angular contact output bearings
- Roller idler and drive bearings for precise gear mesh
Consider a Frame Stiffener
More clearance and bigger tires bring more action, and more stress on the stock frame. To ride with confidence, add a frame stiffener with your portals by choosing Yes under "Do you need a frame stiffener?" Choose No if you already have one.
Max Tire Size by Setup
| Max tire size | Required setup |
|---|---|
| 33" | Stock suspension |
| 34" | 3" lift kit |
| 35" | 1.5" forward front A-arms |
| 37" | 1.5" forward front A-arms and 3" lift kit |
| 44" | 10" lift kit |
Measured at full compression and full turn, these are the largest sizes that fit without rubbing. Bigger tires can work with some trimming or minor rub.
Wheel Requirements
- 14" or larger wheels required
- 14" and 15" wheels: no more than 4-1/2" backspacing
- 16" and larger wheels: no more than 5" backspacing
- Factory 14" wheels need 2" wheel spacers
- Not compatible with dual beadlock wheels
- Center hole of at least 3.25" (82.55 mm), or 1" wheel spacers are required
Why Start With 4"
Not every rider wants a towering mud machine. The 4" kit gives a noticeable gain in ground clearance and room for a size or two larger tire, while keeping the Turbo's center of gravity reasonable and its top speed close to stock with the 15% reduction. It's a great fit for trail riders who keep scraping on rocks and stumps, or anyone who wants to move up from the stock tire without straining belts, axles and the transmission. If you later go bigger, the table above shows how far this kit can grow with forward arms or a lift.
Using Your Factory Wheels
Because this kit accepts 14" wheels, you can keep the factory wheels if you add 2" wheel spacers, which saves the cost of new wheels. Check the center hole and backspacing of any aftermarket wheels against the list above, and note that dual beadlock wheels won't work with these portals. Not sure about your wheels? Send us the size and backspacing and we'll confirm before you order.
About the Lift Kit Question
You'll be asked whether your RZR already has a big lift kit. Your answer helps make sure the right parts ship for your setup, so choose the option that matches your machine today.
Picking Your Options
- Year: 2016 or 2017-2021
- Lift kit: whether you run a big lift kit
- Frame stiffener: Yes, or No if you already have one
- Housing: Billet or Cast
- Gear reduction: 15% or 30%
- Idler: Dual or Single
What's in the Box
- (4) Assembled portal hub boxes with 9310 gears, seals, output shaft, gaskets and thrust bearings
- (4) Universal hubs and precision-ground stainless steel slotted rotors with lugs
- (4) Specialized steel alloy backing plates
- (4) Steel caliper mounting plates
- (4) Caliper adapter plates (2 with the dual idler setup)
- (2) Steel steering arms
- Extended brake lines
- All hardware, including a recessed castle nut socket
Who It's For and What Pairs Well
For Turbo owners who want more clearance and torque for slightly bigger tires while keeping speed. Grow into larger tires later with arms from RZR XP Turbo A-arms or a lift from RZR XP Turbo lift kits.
Fitment
| Year | Make | Model |
|---|---|---|
| 2016-2021 | Polaris | RZR XP Turbo |
| 2016-2021 | Polaris | RZR XP 4 Turbo |
Wheel Requirements
- 14” or larger wheel required
- 14” & 15” wheels cannot exceed 4-1/2” backspacing
- 16” and larger wheels cannot exceed 5” backspacing
- If using factory 14” wheels, you must run 2” wheel spacers
- Not compatible with dual beadlock wheels
- Wheels need to have a center hole of at least 3.25" (82.55mm) or require a 1” wheel spacer
Installation Notes
Plan on a full day. Swap the factory hubs and brakes for the backing plates and portal boxes, install the steering arms, caliper plates and extended brake lines, bleed the brakes and fill each portal with gear oil. Add 2" spacers if you're keeping the stock 14" wheels, and finish with an alignment.
