The 6-inch portal gear lift is the sweet spot for a 2024+ Polaris RZR XP 1000 that has to do it all: deep ruts, big rocks and mud. Six inches of lift at each hub gives you clearance a body lift can't touch, and room for tires up to 43 inches with the right suspension. Three gear reduction choices let you set the machine up for speed, crawling or the heaviest mud tires.

Highlights

  • 6" of lift at the hubs
  • 30%, 45% or 60% gear reduction
  • Single or dual idler gear sets (dual available with billet housings)
  • Cast or 6061 billet aluminum housings
  • Precision-ground 9310 alloy billet steel gears
  • 1.5" diameter 4340 hardened steel drive shaft
  • Universal hubs set up for 4/156, 4/137, 4/115 or 4/110 bolt patterns
  • Fits up to 38-43" tires depending on suspension
  • Optional frame stiffener for 2024-2025 models
  • Limited lifetime manufacturer warranty

Match the Reduction to Your Riding

ReductionRide style
30%Faster riding with plenty of power, moderate tire upgrade
45%Rock crawling and rough terrain
60%The ultimate mud build with massive tires (dual idler, billet)

In this kit, the 60% reduction comes with dual idler gears and billet housings, and the 45% and 30% are available in single or dual. More reduction means more torque at the tire and less strain on the belt.

What the Second Idler Does

Each portal box uses an idler gear to step power down to the wheel. Adding a second idler spreads the load across twice as much gear surface, making the strongest gear set you can buy, and the gears are precision ground so both idlers carry their share. On this 6-inch kit, the dual idler setup also moves the wheel 1" forward in front and 1" back in the rear, for 2" of total wheelbase extension.

Housings and Backing Plates

Choose cast aluminum for value or 6061 billet for maximum strength (billet is required for dual idlers). Either way, the housings are reinforced to hold the gears in place and shaped to keep oil flowing to them, and they mount to advanced steel alloy backing plates that are stronger than chromoly.

Less Strain on Axles and Differentials

Big tires without portals load every driveline part. With the reduction at the hub, the axles, differential, prop shaft and transmission do less work, so they wear less and last longer, even with 40-inch-plus tires.

Seals and Bearings

  • Oil-resistant gaskets and O-rings
  • Sealed input gear and double-lip output seal
  • Full sealing coverage against leaks
  • Double angular-contact output bearings
  • Roller idler and drive bearings for precise gear mesh
  • No vents, which the maker found did more harm than good in testing

Max Tire Sizes

2" offset A-arms42"

Wheel Requirements

  • 18" or larger wheels
  • 18" wheels: maximum 4-1/2" backspacing
  • 20" and larger wheels: maximum 5" backspacing
  • Wheel center hole at least 3.25" (82.55 mm), or use a 1" wheel spacer

Frame Stiffener Option

Use the first picker to add a frame stiffener (2024-2025 models only) or skip it if you already have one; adding it raises the price. With six inches of lift and much bigger tires, frame reinforcement is a smart part of the build.

Portals vs. a Body Lift

A body or suspension lift raises the frame, but leaves the differentials and lower arms close to the ground and steepens the CV angles. A portal gear lift moves the wheel's center below the hub, so the entire machine, including the diffs and skid plates, rides higher. The axles keep near-stock angles, and the reduction gears give back the torque that bigger tires take away.

Why 6 Inches

Six inches is where clearance and tire size jump dramatically without going to a full mud-only build. You can run 38-inch tires on the stock suspension and up to 43 inches with forward offset arms and a 3-inch lift. That's enough for deep ruts, big ledges and serious mud, while the 30% option keeps the machine lively on faster trails.

Wheel Planning

Because the portal brakes and hubs sit lower and larger, this kit needs 18-inch or bigger wheels. On 18s, backspacing must be 4-1/2 inches or less; on 20s and larger, up to 5 inches. Most owners going this route also step up to a larger wheel to match the tire size.

Plan the Whole Build

  • Decide on tire size, then choose reduction and idler setup
  • Confirm wheel diameter, backspacing and center bore
  • Upgrade ball joints and steering for the added leverage
  • Retune the clutch for the new gearing
  • Use gear oil formulated for these portals (Portal Blood) and change it on schedule
  • Add the frame stiffener on 2024-2025 models

The design is covered by U.S. patents 11,299,042 and 11,318,787.

What's in the Box

  • (4) Assembled portal hub boxes with 9310 gears, seals, output shaft, gaskets and thrust bearings

Who It's For and What Pairs Well

For 2024+ RZR XP and XP 4 owners building a do-everything machine on 38-43" tires. Add Keller or Super-Duty ball joints from 2024+ RZR XP A-arms, a Stage 2 clutch kit from RZR XP 1000 2024+ clutch and transmission, and protection for the frame from RZR XP 1000 2024+ chassis and frame parts.

Wheel Requirements

  • 18” or larger wheel required
  • 18” wheels cannot exceed 4-1/2” backspacing
  • 20” and larger wheels cannot exceed 5” backspacing
  • Wheels need to have a center hole of at least 3.25" (82.55mm) or require a 1” wheel spacer

Installation Notes

All four hubs, rotors and brake lines are replaced. Plan a full day or have a shop do it. Fill the portal boxes with gear oil before the first ride, recheck torque and look for leaks afterward. Instructions for the single and dual idler versions are linked below.
